Desmoid tumor within ball of foot. excision and biopsy tomorrow afternoon.

I'm a little freaked out about my surgery tomorrow. I'm afraid of the pain in recovery and the fact that they don't even really know if it is desmoid or not. The mri radiologist said aggressive fibromatosis, desmoid. The orthopedic surgeon said he isn't sure if it is that, but that it needs to come out and have a frozen biopsy done at the time of excision. He said it could be many things.

It started out around 4 years ago around the size of a pea. Now it has grown to 3.5 cm in the middle of the ball of my foot and in between the the second and third metatarsals. It is shaped like a oval and is fixed in place. The skin covering it doesn't move. It's almost as if it is callused. In fact when it was smaller I used pumice to try and wear it down.

I didn't seek treatment for years because I thought it was a nodule related to my rheumatoid arthritis. I knew that removing those nodules was a waste of time because they always come back. The pain has increased over the years and it has been making walking difficult, so I finally saw a podiatrist. He didn't want to do the surgery and referred me to a doctor at the university of Minnesota hospital that specializes in soft tissue tumors and cancer. I guess it's involved the nerve and blood vessels, but no bone loss. So he said that was good.

How painful is this recovery going to be? He didn't tell me. Could I go back to work on Monday. I have a desk job.
