I am currently recovering from a plantar plate injury/sesamoiditis , and a bone contusion in the first metatarsal head in my left foot. It has been 2 1/2 months and I'm finally seeing some measurable improvement, after many weeks in a walking boot and almost 3 weeks using a knee roller. Just when I was thinking I was almost done with all this, I went and accidentally kicked my knee roller with my right foot. I tore the nail on my big toe, and the big toe joint was pretty sore. I saw my ortho three days later (already had an appointment for my left foot) and he removed the nail and did xrays on the right foot. He did not see any fracture. The next night, my foot started to swell in the area of the big toe joint and about halfway up my foot, and about halfway across to the third toe area. There is redness, some bruising, and a lot of pain. The worst pain is in the first MPJ, but extends to other areas of my foot, eerily similar to the pain I had in my left foot. I suddenly have a lot of trouble walking on it, and have taken to using my knee roller for my right foot. I am wondering whether I need to make another appointment or if this sudden increase in symptoms several days after the injury is something to be expected with what the ortho said he thought was just a badly stubbed toe? Anyone have any thoughts?
