Authenticate users for read only access

I want our support folks to be able to see messages but not deploy channels. I have the LDAP plug-in but it's not so obvious, does it just let anyone who is in the OU to have full access? How do I do access control? Should I just create mirth users and go that route? Would like to tie to LDAP if possible.
