Should the exhaust for my propane furnace run when heat pump in A/C mode?

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif] I hope that you can help me out with something about our home A/C system. We have what Trane refers to as a "hybrid system:

- Heat pump for heating down to 34 degrees, and also for A/C.
- Propane furnace for heating below 34 degrees. The propane furnace has an exhaust which exits the basement just below ground level, with a fan that propels the exhaust.

We've noticed something that seems to be wrong. After nine years of using this system, we are now hearing the exhaust for the propane furnace run for a minute or two occasionally, while the heat pump is running as A/C. We don't believe that the system has done this before.

Should this be happening? If not, do you have any idea as to what may be wrong? Possibly the thermostat, or a board within the system?

Thanks for any direction that you might be able to give!
