I've been living with a broken 5th metatarsal (non-union jones fracture) for two years now. Two months after injury I finally made it to a podiatrist, he said it looked like the bone was healing and made it to be no big deal. I have pain with every step. Finally went to a good doctor last week, who said i will be in pain forever if i don't get it surgically corrected. I will be speaking to the surgeon in a few days.
Questions....being such a chronic long standing fracture...what are my chances that this will heal? I have read about "bone death" for long standing non-union fractures? Should there be extensive surgical strategies for a case like this? Bone graft? Any advise or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
